چکیده
This paper studies acoustic emission (AE) wave propagation in a glass fibre aluminium honeycomb sandwich panel (HSP). Of particular novelty is the quantification of through-thickness AE from one surface HSP to other, which real-world monitoring consideration for applications where instrumentation only be permissible on surface, i.e. aerofoils. Complexity was introduced specimens stages enable thorough understanding; first investigating large laminated plate (GFLP) alone; then bespoke with limited number cells; and, finally, HSP. The results this demonstrate that, whilst some energy transmitted through core, propagating an becomes bound outer plates. Despite this, these plates differs that equivalent same material isolation due complex interactions structural elements Further, other quantified time, giving insight into expected attenuation rates and characteristics practical applications.

Application of the Wave Propagation Approach to Sandwich Structures: Vibro-Acoustic Properties of Aluminum Honeycomb Materials
Sandwich structures are manufactured using multiple combinations of materials for core and laminates. The real performances are influenced by variability in the composing layers and even by the uncertainties introduced while bonding them together. Therefore, experimental tests are usually the preferred way to assess the most important parameters required to develop and to characterize the produ...

متن کاملOnline Guided Wave-Based Debonding Detection in Honeycomb Sandwich Structures
Because of the complex nature of structural characteristics, damage detection in honeycomb sandwich structures inherently carries many challenges. In the study, effects of debonding on leaky guided wave propagation in honeycomb sandwich structures are first studied by using the finite element method. A surface-bonded piezoelectric wafer actuator/sensor network is used for elastic-guided wave pr...

متن کاملWave propagation in a sandwich structure
The propagation of elastic waves in a sandwich structure with two thin stiff face-plates and a thick compliant core is considered in this paper. A complete description of the dispersion relation with no restrictions on frequency and wavelength is provided. This is accomplished by transforming the wave equation to a Hamiltonian system and then using a transfer matrix approach for solving the Ham...
